Details of IDW's Star Wars Adventures comics

14th June 2017 |

Publisher IDW have released details of their forthcoming Star Wars Adventures comic series via CBR.com. First announced at this year's Star Wars Celebration Orlando, these new comic book stories are aimed towards a younger audience (leaving Marvel to focus on the "older" market), with each 32-page issue having self-contained stories: at least one story per issue. IDW expect to release at least one issue per month with releases being more frequent (more than one issue per month) in the lead up to the release of The Last Jedi in December.
According to IDW's President and Chief Operating Officer, Greg Goldstein, the stories are "primarily" original and will be "set in the entire Star Wars combined universe: They can be the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, the modern films, some of the offshoots that are still considered part of the canon".

The first issue is due for release on September 6th and features stories by Cavan Scott, with art by Derek Charm, that will "reveal Rey’s early adventures on Jakku as well as a comical tale of clone catastrophe". The second issue will follow on the 20th September in which "Rey is forced to save the life of the unpleasant Unkar Plutt! Will she be able to outwit the off-worlders who have captured him?"

Florian at Jedi-Bibliothek.de is also reporting that prior to these official releases in September, a "premier issue" will be availble exclusively at this year's SDCC (20th-23rd July) with its own stories that are not expected to be published in a regular comic issue, but will be collated in a graphic novel release.

The stories will be quickly collected into graphic novel anthology releases with the first volume due for release in mid-October. It will collate the stories published in the first two issues and the SDCC premier issue.

CBR also revealed regular covers for the first two issues as well as retailer variants for the first issue:

#1 cover A by Derek Charm#2 cover A by Derek Charm

#1 cover B by Elsa Charretier#1 variant cover A by Eric Jones

#1 variant cover B by Jon Sommariva#1 variant cover C by Chris Samnee
