Synopsis:
This book contains the following stories:
-
Graduation Day
by Chris Avellone, Stewart McKenney et al.
Quietly working out on the fields of Dantooine, Wass
drops his job in surprise as he sees Separatist
ships moving in on the horizon. He runs back to his
friends, declaring that their day has come. As the
rest of the children flee to the escape ship, Wass
and two of his friends stay behind to hold off the
droids, only to find that they are trapped. Zac uses
his connection with animals to start a stampede,
trampling the droids and clearing a path. The three
split up, each using their unique skills to decimate
the droid ranks. Zac and Wass' third friend quickly
move to the escape ship and begin piloting it away.
They reach Wass just as he is outnumbered in the
fields, picking him up to safety. When asked what
their destination is, Zac firmly replies that
they're heading to the Jedi Academy on Coruscant to
graduate at last.
Occurs during the fourth month after the Battle
of Geonosis.
-
Thunder Road
by Matthew & Shawn Fillbach et al.
In Death Canyon, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi
impatiently watches as Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker
patches up an old VXL speeder. There is a squad of
bounty hunters chasing after them and only one way
out of the canyon, a path that the hunters have
closed off. Skywalker zooms the speeder out of the
garage and Kenobi hops on, skeptical of his former
Padawan's modifications but soon hanging on for his
life as the VXL blasts off. Unfortunately, Skywalker
informs him that they could not slow down even if
they wanted to, and this proves troublesome when a
harpoon is stuck into the speeder. Rather than stop
it, the harpoon gun itself is pulled out of the
ground, forcing Kenobi to jump onto the top of the
speeder and dispatch the bounty hunter trailing
behind it. The two Jedi next face two rows of bounty
hunters on each side of them, some with rocket
launchers and some with blasters. As Kenobi deflects
the bolts, Skywalker takes both lightsabers and
hooks them up to the power core, giving the speeder
a moment of sonic speed and allowing it to jet to
safety, to the Republic headquarters where Grand
Master Yoda awaits. The old Master remarks on how
good the speeder looks, and Kenobi groans as
Skywalker quips "once a classic, always a
classic".
Occurs during the thirty-first month after the
Battle of Geonosis.

Chain of
Command by Jason Hall, Ethen Beavers et al.
During the midst of the Clone Wars on the planet
Hitaka, Jedi Knight Anise I'Zak enters the tent of
Generals Aayla Secura and Ki-Adi-Mundi. I'Zak is
given a top-secret canister and is instructed to
deliver it to the Republic camp several clicks to
the east. On the way there, she is ambushed by
several battle droids and super battle droids. After
dispatching them, she soon stumbles across a squad
of droidekas in a native village. Although the
battle manages to break through the walls of one of
the homes, the natives help I'Zak in defeating her
droid foes. Before one of the droidekas is taken
out, however, it manages to shoot off one last bolt,
hitting the secret canister squarely in the middle
and destroying it. I'Zak takes her anger out on a
nearby team of super battle droids and later returns
to the camp disappointed. She is surprised when
Secura and Ki-Adi-Mundi reveal themselves, stating
that I'Zak's mission was a complete success, as her
real mission was to be a decoy as the two generals
dealt with a top secret mission, which came directly
from Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Elsewhere, Count
Dooku meets with the hologram of Darth Sidious. The
count informs his master that the mission was a
success and that Secura and Ki-Adi-Mundi had no clue
their own mission was a diversion so that Dooku
could successfully carry out his task. Sidious
smiles, remarking that Dooku has learned the
"importance of carrying out orders"...
something that Ki-Adi-Mundi told I'Zak only moments
before.
Occurs during the sixth month after the Battle of
Geonosis.

Waiting by
Matthew & Shawn Fillbach et al.
A clone trooper sits at a cannon overlooking a
bridge, affirming to his commander that he is in
position and will be ready when the Separatist droid
army arrives in three hours. The Republic
reinforcements are delayed, and the lone trooper is
the only resistance that the droids will meet on
their way to the nearby mining colony. As he lines
up his shot, one of the local creatures steals the
rockets for the cannon, darting into a nearby hole.
The clone follows the creature, only to find that
the tunnel isn't stable enough to support his
weight. The creature flees and the clone, clutching
the rockets, falls down into an underground lake.
There, he is attacked and swallowed by a massive
underwater creature, but he manages to blast his way
out and is swept away by the current. Noticing that
there is a waterfall up ahead, he clings onto a rock
but is soon met by the same creature as before, who
gleefully bangs on the clone's hands. The trooper
falls down the waterfall, only to find that he is at
the base of the bridge and that the Separatists are
in the middle of their crossing. The clone, thinking
fast, sets the rockets at the bottom of the bridge
and swims away, blasting the rockets once he has
reached safety. The bridge explodes, destroying the
opposing army. Wet and tired, the trooper returns to
his previous station, ready to pack up the cannon
and move on to his next assignment. He sighs in
resignation as the local creature from before darts
before him, grabbing the cannon and running away and
beginning a new chase.
Occurs during the sixth month after the Battle of
Geonosis.
