Review
by Bones, UK, 2011
"The new young reader series, Secret
Missions, begins with Breakout Squad, which sees the
eponymous clone squad trapped on a Separatist planet with an
inexperienced Jedi Padawan, whilst a sinister plot works behind the
scenes.
"Overall, this book was a very enjoyable read. It introduces
its characters relatively well, although their penchant for
nicknaming everything seemed mildly childish (not necessarily the
notion of it, just the way it was achieved). It was refreshing to
see a new Jedi introduced, particularly a Chiss one, although little
explanation was offered as to how he became a Jedi when his people
are as reclusive as they are – hopefully this will be addressed
later. There were amusing little nods to A
New Hope and Return
of the Jedi which seemed perfectly appropriate. Also, the way
the situations were manoeuvred behind the scenes by Darth Sidious
and Cad Bane were handled very nicely and definitely fitted their
respective modus operandi. The ending was a little bit forced,
pushing the aforementioned inexperienced apprentice into a mission
that was clearly going to prove difficult for one so young, but
regardless, as an introduction to the rest of the series, this book
works very well."
