February 2001 saw the publication of the first Star
Wars novella in electronic form, the e-book Darth
Maul: Saboteur by James Luceno. Originally only available
as an electronic download, these e-book novellas were
additional storylines to a previously published hardback
novel. Such e-book novellas would be later included in the
paperback release of the main story's novel. The release of a
full Star Wars novel in electronic form did not occur until
June 2003 when the first three books from The
New Jedi Order: Vector
Prime, Onslaught and Ruin
were made available in electronic form. However, this was
before the availability of dedicated e-book readers such as
the amazonKindle or the Sony Reader, when the
e-book was not a popular medium for the distribution of

Legacy of the Force
series were released as e-books and one month later, and coinciding
with its hardback release, the final novel, Invincible,
was also made available in e-book form. One year later and, while
each of the Fate of the Jedi
novels would receive an e-book release on the same day as its
hardback release. Recently Amazon launched their free Kindle
Reading Apps for iPhone/iPod

iPad,
Blackberry,
Android,
PC
and Mac
allowing users of these platforms access* to Amazon's catalogue of
600,000+ Kindle titles.
