"The
Jedi Quest series continues as Anakin and
Obi-Wan have to fend off a group of bounty hunters. This plot is
mostly irrelevant, only becoming important towards the end of the
book when future plot points are set up. For the most part, the book
is about relationships as with the first book, The
Way of the Apprentice. The difference here is that it is not
Anakin's relationships with other Padawans but his relationship with
Obi-Wan.
"Some of the better parts of the Jedi
Apprentice series dealt with the rapport that existed between
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. Here, Watson continues her ability to examine
characters. Anakin remains incorrigible in his impatience and
Obi-Wan finds himself having to shake off some of the shadows of his
own Master and accept that he cannot teach as Qui-Gon did because
Anakin is a very different Padawan. Also, the link made by setting
the story on Ragoon-6 was a nice touch, as well as the cameo at the
end made by Dexter.
"The down side to this book has to be the bounty hunters
themselves. It is unfortunate that they are merely a backdrop for
the story and are, therefore, bland and uninteresting. The two that
the Jedi interact with the most during the story are pointless and
irritating and don't really add anything to the experience.
"Overall, some good introspection - enjoyable but not
outstanding."
