"The
Master of Disguise is a gripping read, combining subterfuge,
ironic moral lessons and an exciting new enemy. Anakin and Obi-Wan
face Granta Omega, the faceless enemy from The
Trail of the Jedi, who seems to be determined to harass the
Jedi.
"The book enters straight into the action, located on a
desolate planet in the middle of a civil war. At first, it seems
like a benign prologue to a more pertinent story to come, but it is
later cleverly revealed to be a lot more than it first appeared to
be. The way the main antagonist hides within the story is
wonderfully done and his agenda is refreshing, yet still familiar -
he is a Sith cultist who merely wishes to gain the approval of the
Sith since he does not possess the ability to become one.
"As with The Dangerous Games,
Watson splits up Anakin and Obi-Wan, but this time it works,
allowing particular attention to be paid to the whispers of the Dark
Side that already exist within the future Sith Lord. Anakin's
journey through the story is very poignant, as he tries to battle
his own ego and ultimately fails spectacularly. The really tragic
part is that he cannot see his failure, instead preferring to
project the failings onto others. Even though the outcome is
inevitable, you can't help but desperately will him to recognise his
faults, but he is so consumed by his need to impress that he is
oblivious to his everything but his personal mission to gain
approval.
"A great addition to the Jedi Quest
series, The Master of Disguise is clever, thrilling and
emotional."
