Star Wars Books is a guide
to over 400 official books and short stories from the Star Wars
galaxy.
Each book or story is catalogued as an
event occurring before or after The Battle of Yavin* (the events
portrayed in the original 1977 Star Wars film) and
categorized according to their relevant era: |

: events occurring between 5,000 and 1,000
years before the Battle of Yavin |

Rise
of the Empire |
: events occurring between 1,000 years
before and up to the Battle of Yavin |

Clone Wars |
: events occurring between 22 years and 19
years before the Battle of Yavin** |

The
Rebellion |
: events
occurring between the Battle of Yavin and up to 5 years after |

The
New Republic |
: events occurring between 5 to 25 years
after the Battle of Yavin |

The
New Jedi Order |
: events occurring between 25 to 35 years
after the Battle of Yavin |

Legacy
of the Force |
: events that occur 40 years after the
Battle of Yavin and beyond |

*Events occurring during The Clone Wars are
catalogued as occurring after The Battle of Geonosis (the events
portrayed in Attack of the Clones)
**The Clone Wars occur within the Rise of the Empire Era but have
been separated for convenience. |
If you would like to find out which books feature the further
adventures of Luke, Han, Leia and Chewbacca after Return of
the Jedi, you should start at the end of The
Rebellion and beginning of The
New Republic eras, whilst to learn about Obi-Wan Kenobi and
Anakin Skywalker's exploits leading up to Revenge of the Sith,
you should consult the Rise
of the Empire era.

Notes:
- Book Details: many stories are available
in various formats, e.g. Hardback book, Paperback book, Comic
Book, etc, where this happens formats are listed in publication
order, i.e. Hardback is published before Paperback and thus is
listed first (this applies to Publication Dates: first date is
first format followed by dates of subsequent format
publications). The format listed in capital letters is
designated the Principle Format and initial details refer to it,
e.g. in the example above, the Hardback format was published in
1996, but since it has been superseded by the Paperback format
in 1997, the Paperback format is now the Principle Format for
this story. This particular story was also released as a Comic
Book Series (1996) and as Graphic Novels (1997) which, along
with the Hardback, are classed as Alternative Formats.
- Related Stories: almost all entries have
Related Stories which are linked to the entry either by overall
plotline or character development. Where Related Stories are
chronologically close to one (or more) of the six films but are
not necessarily intrinsic to the Related Stories (by either
plotline or character development), those film titles will be
listed in italics (to give a better indication of where events
occur relative to the film saga). However, where events are
intrinsic to any of the films those films will be listed as a
Related Story.
