Synopsis:
As civil war threatens the unity
of the Galactic Alliance, Han and Leia Solo have enraged
their families and the Jedi by joining the Corellian
insurgents. But the Solos draw the line when they
discover the rebels’ plot to make the Hapan Consortium
an ally–which rests upon Hapan nobles murdering their
pro-Alliance queen and her daughter.
Yet the Solos’ selfless determination to save the
queen cannot dispel the inescapable consequences of
their actions, that will pit mother against son and
brother against sister in the battles ahead. For as
Jacen Solo’s dark powers grow stronger under the Dark
Jedi Lumiya, and his influence over Ben Skywalker
becomes more insidious, Luke’s concern for his nephew
forces him into a life-and-death struggle against his
fiercest foe, and Han and Leia Solo find themselves at
the mercy of their deadliest enemy...their son. |

Review by S-Ash, UK, 2007:
"When Tempest opens from the same perspective as the previous Bloodlines,
you worry that the authors writing this series haven't been
comparing notes.
"Worse, Bloodlines' bounty hunter
was Boba Fett. All Tempest has to offer newbies is Alema Rar, which
isn't quite as exciting. But then Denning, by far the best Star Wars
spin-off writer at the moment, gets going, and you're in safe hands.
"With Denning, it's details that matter. Bloodlines
made Fett sound cheesy, Tempest manages to make Rar sound like his
cooler younger sister, with the subtlest of stylistic touches.
"This technique continues throughout, with odd metaphors and
twisted descriptions appearing frequently. But Denning doesn't just
succeed because he carries a fancy thesaurus; his ability to weave
complex plotlines out of what is, essentially, a game of 'Look, Han
Solo's old!' and 'Look! Luke's a bad-ass!' is certainly impressive.
"Tempest's surface plot concerns the continuing Corellian Civil
War. The Solos and Skywalkers are forced to shift sides when a
conspiracy to murder the Hapan royal family is revealed. Even worse
perhaps, Jacen Solo is continuing towards the dark side, as Jedi
Lumiya extends his influence over Hans' son.
"Jacen's journey reveals shock twists that put both this
series, and Denning's own Dark Nest
saga, into fresh context.
"Far from failing to relate to the other authors, Denning's
been watching closely, and here he starts to tie all of their loose
ends up. It's an impressive feat, which spin-off junkies will want
to read repeatedly."
