Synopsis:
Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and the Rebel
Alliance have fought valiantly against the evil Galactic
Empire. Together they have kept alive the hopes for
freedom, and helped restore the ways of the Old Republic
with its wise Senate and noble line of Jedi Knights. But
now a new threat awaits the Alliance.
Within the evil Empire, the surviving Imperial warlords
have been fighting among themselves for power. No one
knows who will seize control, but the Prophets of the
Dark Side have foretold that soon a new Emperor will
arise, and on his right hand he shall wear an
indestructible symbol of evil.

"The
Glove of Darth Vader is the first in a series of six books by
Paul and Hollace Davids that are collectively known as the Jedi
Prince series.
"There is very little to recommend this book. Granted, it was
written when the Expanded Universe had barely started to be formed,
but then so was the Thrawn
Trilogy, which is vastly superior. Granted, it is a children's book,
and therefore one should expect simplicity of language and plot. In
spite of that, there are still many things that count against this
book. A few examples:
1)
Admiral Ackbar explaining how less Whaladons and more plankton
will destroy the entire planet.
2) One of the Grand Moffs wears earrings shaped like blaster
pistols...
3) The insinuation that it was not Darth Vader who throttled
people with the power of the Force, it was, in fact, his glove
that held the power.
4) I clearly remember Yoda saying that a Jedi never uses the Force
for attack. Here, however, it is apparently a Jedi rule of thumb
to attack when confronted with overwhelming odds.
5) Every single noise that Artoo makes is positively cringeworthy
- why? Because they write it out phonetically!
6) The Emperor's son has three eyes...really.
"There
are many more examples of just how silly this book is. I only read
it out of a sense of morbid curiosity - and that is the only reason
why anyone should ever read it." |
