"The
Jedi Prince series continues with this
less-than-impressive second instalment. As with the previous book (The
Glove of Darth Vader), there are too
many things about it that are just so silly that it's amazing that
anyone ever thought they would be acceptable. The characters
continually say incredibly obvious and pointless things (including
some very dubious Ho'Din rhymes), the antagonist decides that the
best way to find a Lost City is to burn down all the jungles on
Yavin 4, Artoo's vocalisations continue to be written phonetically
and the whole concept of Han Solo building himself a "dream
sky-house", complete with nanowave stove on which zoochberry
pies can be cooked is so utterly out of character that it begs to be
ridiculed. All of this is in no way helped by the deus ex machina at
the end of the story when they put out the blazing fires and save
the planet (ecological messages abound).
"Too much silliness, too much inappropriate characterisation
and a total lack of thought make this a poor and unsatisfying
read." |
