Synopsis:
Deadly assassin X-7 has
infiltrated the Rebel Alliance. Trained by ruthless
Commander Rezi Soresh, X-7 is the best there is: he
feels nothing and sees everything. Now, he's gunning for
the ultimate prize: Luke Skywalker, the pilot that
destroyed the Death Star. The seemingly clueless kid
from Tatooine proves more resourceful and difficult to
eliminate than X-7 could ever have imagined. Surrounded
by friends and allies, and with a connection to the
Force that grows stronger every day, Luke seems all but
impervious to the usual tactics.
But X-7 isn't done with him yet. This time, he knows how
to bring Luke down. He'll shatter the trust that holds
the Rebel Alliance together and manufacture the ultimate
betrayal.

"Renegade,
the third Rebel Force book, refers to Han
Solo as he leaves the Rebellion to resume his life as a smuggler
after he is framed for attempted murder. Meanwhile, Luke and Leia
travel to Tatooine to pay final respects to Biggs Darklighter.
"It was interesting to see Luke return to the planet where he
grew up and dealing with some of the nostalgia that would occur
during such an undertaking. But on the whole I found that to be the
best thing about the book. There were several other things that just
didn't sit as well. For example, Leia vs. the Krayt Dragon was a
touch far-fetched in its execution, Han Solo conveniently
discovering the exact information that he needed in order to clear
his name during a random smuggling run, in fact the first random
smuggling run since he absconded, and there are several continuity
issues that arise from having the characters return to Tatooine,
particularly the scenes involving Jabba the Hutt. This book flirts
with plot elements from The Empire Strikes Back, which is
dangerous ground. Also, having a Skyhopper race so soon after a
Podrace in the previous book seems a touch repetitious.
"It's an OK read, but nowhere near as good as the first two
volumes."
